How to get Endnote

Endnote must be acquired via IMD. It is not available through the Medical Library.

It can only be placed on a BAMC computer, not a personal computer.

Does not include Endnote online

Exporting from a database

PubMed- select 'Send to" then "citation manager."

 

 

Ebscohost databases- Click on "share" drop down box.

Ovid Databases- Run Search, Click on Export, Select RIS from format dropdown, Select Complete Reference from Fields. Select Export

Import to Endnote

  • Create a new reference library
  • Select from File "import"
  • select file
  • choose import file
  • select import option 
    • "Reference Manager RIS" for Ovid or Ebsco as exported above
    • "PubMed (NLM)" for Pubmed files
  • Select to discard duplicates (files loaded first will be the record kept) it is suggested to load PubMed first
  • No Translation
  • Select Import
    • Take note of the number of duplicates deleted. For PRISMA flowchart and record
    • Please note duplicates will likely remain due to differences in citation record. Manual deduplication will likely be required.

Export From Endnote to Excel

Select Edit> output style> edit tab delimited to create a new output style (Some line splitting may occur with some field selections in final product.)

Once new style is created choose your style from the drop down on the main page. 

Select the records you want to export and right click. Select "copy formatted".

Paste into excel sheet.

Import file into Covidence

Speak to a member of the library staff for access to Covidence.

Covidence will accept up to files 50MB and up to 15,000 references in the following formats:

  • Endnote XML
  • PubMed text format
  • RIS Text format

*When exporting from Endnote use XML or RefMan (RIS) Export

Covidence will automatically de-duplicate when importing. This is reflected in the PRISMA flow chart created in Covidence. 

Choose "import" on the review summary page.

select stage of review to import into at this stage you can select the source of the references. 

*If files come from more than one source choose a single source and divide as needed after import in the import history page and choosing the source box. 

Click Choose file and select your file 

click import

You will be redirected to a review summary page where you can view the progress of the import.
